Recovery School of Discipleship – First Resident May 2018

RU TESTIMONY –DEBBI HALL MAY 2018

I met Pastor Leo Minnaar at Village Bible Baptist Church In September 2017 when he was the backup pastor, as our pastor was going overseas for 4 months. I was impressed with the way he spoke his truth and always referred back to the Bible on everything. Being a new believer of only one month this was all very new to me. I had so many questions and Pastor Leo was always willing to sit with me after church and answer my questions. Also, being a serious addict, I was not too sure (how being a Christian), this now impacted my new life. I kept my ‘stash ‘ of sleeping tablets safe in my cupboard although I was not taking them, which unbeknown to me at the time, was the worst thing I could have done.

Approximately 6 weeks later, not having a job, and with the stresses of life ‘getting me down’ I started to spiral again and began to take my tablets again, not only at night but as soon as I woke up again as well (repeating the cycle of what I used to do when I was in the height of my addiction). This continued for about 3 days. When the phone rang and it was Pastor Leo. I asked him if “The Lord had told him to phone me” and he said “Well yes he was convicted to phone me. It was decided that I indeed needed help and that I would move up to Albert Falls and be the first resident at Pastor Leo’s Ruaddicted Recovery School of Discipleship.

It was with nervous anticipation that I left my hometown of Hillcrest, sold everything except my microwave, fan and washing machine, and moved to Albert Falls on 24 November 2017.

Having lived alone for the past 9 years, I found it difficult to now relate to a new routine and rules that had to be followed and especially set times, but after a month, I found that I looked forward to our daily Bible Study with eager anticipation and joy.

The country atmosphere is both exhilarating and refreshing, calm and peaceful all at the same time. Pastor Leo has always been just across the lawn whenever I need him, whether it be to assist with a question about one of the 10 Daily Principles I am watching on the Dvd about my addiction, or about the homework I am doing after our Bible Study, I have found that I have never been able to fault his answers, and he always refers me back to the Bible. Pastor’s Leo’s favourite saying is “What does God have to say about this Debbi?”

I have grown so much in Christ in my 5 month’s here, and am experiencing freedom In Christ from my drug addiction. After so many failed attempts !!!!! Thank you to Pastor Leo through our Lord Jesus Christ.
